Optimal Spacing

On January 30th 2009, we launched a fund raising DVD called "It takes a VILLAGE to make a POET" at the famous Black Sheep Inn. The poet in question, Phil Cohen, is our very own Village Poet, he has been a leader in our community for many years, running the winter carnival and spring clean-up to give you an idea. His most passionate project these days is building a community centre to create a home for the library, theatre, youth centre and recreation committee. So to celebrate his 70th birthday and the amazing spirit in our community we published 70 poems in text form and then we got friends and colleagues to animate 30 of them. Ian Tamblyn, Jazz Anouk, Phil Jenkins, Doug McArthur, Alise Marlane and Lindsay Ferguson recorded music tracks. Theatre Wakefield actors recited poems and Robert was joined by Claude Laroche, Chris Rompre and Doug McArthur creating the videos. That first night we raised over $3,000 and sold over 120 DVDs - available in Wakefield or by mail at www.wakefieldcentre.ca

To get a taste of this fantastic project, watch The Wakefield Elementary School 6th graders perform the poem "Optimal Spacing"
