The Wakefield Bridge Story (1997) (In distribution)

This video tells the story of a community determined, against all odds, to
rebuild its most prized and historic landmark. When the 1915 Gendron covered
bridge was destroyed by arsonists in 1984, residents mourned as if they had
suffered the death of a dear friend. Soon, however, their grief gave way to
the desire for action as they undertook the task of gathering army of volunteers
as well as raising over $600,000 (an enormous sum for such a small community)
to rebuild the bridge. In the summer of 1997, after a decade of dogged persistence,
the bridge was finally reborn, built to the exact specifications of the original,
and sits to this day in all its splendor over the Gatineau river.
Made in association with Vivian Hanwell Productions and Canadian Heritage.
